The cloud increase the turnover of the two giant Microsoft and amazon
Microsoft and Amazon have just announced impressive financial results for the first quarter of 2018 (third fiscal quarter). These excellent results are largely related to the respective cloud activities of the two US companies.
In Q1 2018 (third fiscal quarter), Microsoft posted revenue of $ 26.8 billion, 16% more than in Q1 2017. Net income was $ 7.4 billion. dollars, up from $ 5.5 billion in the same period last year.
For its part, Amazon has unveiled even more spectacular financial results, since the firm has just doubled its profit compared to last year. In the first three months of 2018, the firm posted a net profit of $ 1.6 billion.
The growth of these two US giants is largely related to their Cloud business. Microsoft Azure, the cloud of the Redmond firm, has experienced an impressive 93% growth over the first quarter of 2017.
Same thing for Amazon Web Services, whose turnover increased by 49% in the first quarter of 2018. In total, Amazon’s cloud represents 11% of its total turnover, compared to 8.5% in previous quarter. With $ 5.44 billion in revenue, the company has even surpassed the predictions of analysts, who expected AWS to generate $ 5.26 billion.
The operating profit of AWS is $ 1.4 billion, which represents 73% of Amazon’s total operating profit of $ 1.93 billion. Suffice to say that the figures give reason to these two American companies to have invested heavily in cloud computing over the last few years.
