Machine learning and automatic correction in Microsoft Word
Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence will be used by Microsoft Word to improve its automatic correction with a better grammar verification system
As part of the Build conference, Microsoft announced that Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence will be used to improve its various products. The Office 365 suite will notably benefit from many improvements thanks to these new technologies.
Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence will be used for grammar checking and automatic correction. The most subtle grammatical errors, which escape the traditional algorithms, can be detected by the algorithms of Windows ML. To prove it, Microsoft presented two identical documents: one edited using the current version of Word, the second with Word combined with Machine Learning. Only the new version has been able to detect three determinants voluntarily omitted.
In addition, it should be noted that Machine Learning Windows ML algorithms work locally on Windows 10 devices and not on the cloud. It is therefore possible to use them without an internet connection, with a reduced latency. On DirectX 12 compatible devices, algorithms can use the PC’s graphics card as a secondary resource in addition to the processor.
